Philosophy as a board member: As the Governing Board respresentative from Election District L, I am committed to communicating with teachers and local leaders from these districts and will be their voice at the state level. Education Minnesota needs to continue to provide support to local leaders. A good example is the Metro Area Council where local leaders have the opportunity to meet regularly to interact, discuss issues, and receive training. These monthly meetings are extremely valuable and we need to ensure outstate locals also have this type of opportunity to connect with other local leaders. Teachers are doing a tremendous job despite large class sizes, continued underfunding, and a diverse student population. Public opinion polls in our district show teachers are respected, trusted and are doing a good job. This is the message we need to convey in order to counter the unwarranted attacks on public education by many politicians and the media. We need to build on the positive as we seek to provide the best education for the students in our state.
