These are the action items adopted or considered by the March 14-15, 2008, Representative Convention.
ACTION ITEM A
A task force of Education Minnesota members, Budget and Finance Committee members, and staff will study the dues category for active members who are licensed teachers or higher education faculty and whose adjusted annual salary as a member of the bargaining unit is less than five percent (5%) of
the prior year’s average starting teacher’s salary (PYASTS). The secretary-treasurer should chair the task force, whose members would be appointed by the president. At the conclusion of their study, the task force will make their recommendations of this dues category to the Governing Board.
ACTION ITEM 1 (ruled out of order)
ACTION ITEM 2 (withdrawn by maker)
ACTION ITEM 3 (referred to Policy Development Committee for study)
That Education Minnesota recognize the National Board Certification of School Nurses (NBCSN) as a measure of mastery in the specialty area of school nursing just as it recognizes the National Board for Professional Teaching as a measure of mastery for the specialty area of teaching.
ACTION ITEM 4
That Education Minnesota, through the appropriate committee (i.e., Task Force, Standing Committee, Governing Board) as determined by the officers, study best practices as it relates to IO structures (i.e., UniServs and Area Councils). This group’s charge would be to examine effective methods of delivering
member training and support in an equitable manner throughout the state. The group will report back to a future Representative Convention with its findings and recommendations for future actions if appropriate.
