Electing and registering delegates and alternates
Each Education Minnesota local and statewide affiliate is entitled to a minimum of one delegate, with additional delegates allocated to each local and to each statewide affiliate based on the ratio of one delegate for each 75 members or major fraction thereof. The delegate allocation report indicates local delegate eligibility based on final 2010-11 membership numbers.
Under federal law, delegates and alternates must be elected by open nomination and secret ballot. We encourage locals to elect enough alternates to ensure full representation in case any delegates can't attend.
Online registration
Local presidents must submit all elected delegate and alternate names electronically no later than March 16 at www.regonline.com/education_minnesota_2012.
You must provide this information to register your delegates and alternates:
- Names (As the local president, you can register multiple delegates and alternates.)
- Last four digits of delegates' Social Security numbers
- Delegate or alternate email address
- Delegate or alternate mailing address
- Delegate or alternate telephone number
- First-time delegate (yes or no)
- Ethnic minority delegate (yes or no)
Once the registration process is completed, local presidents and delegates will receive a confirmation email verifying registration.
Late registration
The Credentials Committee will review delegate and alternate names submitted after March 16 and present recommendations to the Representative Convention for action. The Credentials Committee will require information why names were not submitted on time, which may include written verification of the local election time and place, the names of candidates running for election, and the official minutes certifying the election of delegates/alternates to make its recommendation.
In mid-March, Education Minnesota will email local presidents who haven't submitted delegate or alternate names to remind them of the process.
