Foundation grants and deadlines

Education Minnesota Foundation logoThe Foundation for Excellence in Teaching and Learning has grants available for members and organizations that provide services to our members.

As with any grant, you will need to file an application that outlines your need and what you hope to accomplish. The application process is simple.

Classroom Grants
The Foundation awards Classroom Grants (pre-K-12 and higher education) between $500 and $3,000 to address particular needs for classroom innovations. Licensed staff who work with students are eligible. Preference is given to projects that address the needs of diverse or at-risk students, involve partnerships and are replicable.

Applications are due 4 p.m. Dec. 9.

Some possibilities:

  • Special programs to help your students improve their reading or math scores.
  • Action research strategies to solve classroom problems.
  • Projects of collaboration and coordination that address special needs in the classroom.

Educational support professional grants
Professional Development Grants are dedicated to meet the professional development and training needs of education personnel.

Some possibilities:

  • Team work training opportunities.
  • Technology training that integrates with curriculum.
  • Projects that build communications among education personnel.

You can request up to $1,000 to acquire new skills and share them with colleagues.

Grant applications are due twice: 4 p.m. Nov. 1, 2011, and 4 p.m. April 2, 2012. The Foundation will announce awards by the end of December and May, respectively. This year's grants must be spent before the 2012-13 school year.

Higher education grants
Professional Development Grants allow higher education faculty to acquire and share new skills and knowledge. These skills might include new instructional ideas, technology, conference attendance, etc.

You can request up to $3,000 to acquire these skills and share your learning. You should also seek in-kind funds to help finance the venture.

Applications are due twice: 4 p.m. Nov. 1, 2011, and 4 p.m. April 2, 2012. Awards will be announced by the end of December and May, respectively. Funds must be spent by the end of the 2011-12 and 2012-13 school years. 

Impact Grants
These grants fund member-driven collaborative efforts to improve professional development. For more information, see the guidelines and application (PDF format).

Affinity Grants 
This grant program is intended for non-profit organizations that provide services to our members. Two rounds of applications are accepted each year. For 2011-12, deadlines are 4 p.m. Nov. 1, 2011, and 4 p.m. April 2, 2012. See the guidelines for more information.
