Teachers as Learners and Leaders overview
Teachers as Learners and Leaders is a professional development awareness and advocacy program with two levels of participation:
TALL Basics
Members begin in the program as advocates. Participants:
- Raise awareness of professional learning practices and responsibilities in their own local unions.
- Become knowledgeable about Minnesota statutes and national standards for high-quality, effective professional development.
- Engage in discussion and activities related to change theory, leadership and using data to make decisions about professional learning.
- Conduct a survey about professional learning in their locals.
TALL basics participants who wish to continue the TALL program may then move into TALL2.
TALL2
TALL2 participants pursue additional opportunities to become agents of change in their local union and their school district. They further develop leadership, advocacy and collaboration skills. Evaluation of professional learning programs becomes an important ingredient in their planning for change. Each year, participants dig deeper into topics such as compliance, quality, capacity, change, leadership and using data. This year 21st-century skills and tools will be a primary focus.
