State establishes voluntary paraprofessional credential
The paraprofessional credential is finally a reality.
Paraprofessionals may apply for this voluntary credential Jan. 16-Feb. 17. You must meet three criteria:
- Two years' experience as a paraprofessional in the same district.
- Successful completion of the ParaPro test.
- Sufficient evidence in meeting all competencies with a minimum of 60 total clock hours.
The Minnesota Board of Teaching has sent notifications to all districts and will have more detailed information on their website as well.
The board will offer a second period in April for paraprofessionals who need more time to finish the competencies or gather information. After this year, paras will be able to apply during November and April annually.
