Update your roster to make sure members receive their benefits
Imagine this: You get a frantic call from a member saying she needs legal assistance. You tell her, "OK, it's good you are a member. Legal assistance for work-related issues is a benefit of membership. Let me call our field representative."
You call your field rep and he tells you, "Sorry, she is not on our membership list."
"What?" you ask. "We collect full dues from her. How can she not be a member?"
Informing the district of who your members are is not enough. You must also inform Education Minnesota by making the changes to your Education Minnesota Membership Roster. The success of every aspect of Education Minnesota depends on our ability to identify, count and communicate with our members. Working together, the local, state and national offices can deliver programs and services that effectively demonstrate to members they are the heart of the organization.
Keeping your roster up-to-date means:
- Members will receive all benefits to which they are entitled.
- Members will receive the assistance they need at the time they need it.
- You won't pay dues for people who retired five years ago! Your local will be billed only for current members.
The 2011-12 Local Membership Contacts Handbook gives you all the information you need to know about keeping your membership roster up-to-date.
