Check accuracy of district seniority lists

This is the time of year when districts distribute seniority lists. It is very important that you remind your membership to check the list for accuracy! 

Members should be sure that:

• Their date of hire is correct.
• Their listed licenses are correct.
• Any tie breakers have been done correctly according to the contract.

Depending on your contract language, failure to raise challenges to the seniority list now could preclude raising those challenges in an unrequested leave of absence (layoff) hearing. If you note issues with teachers being designated as probationary instead of non-probationary (or continuing contract), contact your field staff.  

A few minutes of review now will save you many headaches later!
