How you can help Minneapolis in tornado-recovery efforts
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Minneapolis, who are still recovering from the devastation left by the May 22 tornado.
Thanks to the generosity of the community – including many of our members – the city of Minneapolis does not need any more volunteers for the scheduled June 4 North Side cleanup. However, there are many other ways you can help in recovery efforts:
- The Minneapolis Federation of Teachers is taking donations of cash, checks, clothing items, baby items and more that will go directly to organizations that are helping storm victims. Send or deliver any donations or notes of support to MFT 59, 67 Eighth Ave. N.E., Minneapolis, MN 55413. Make sure all donations are placed in an envelope with your name and contact information so that you can receive a receipt. Checks can be made out to MFT.
- Donate to the Minneapolis Foundation’s Minnesota Helps -- North Minneapolis Recovery Fund -- to assist with both short-term and long-term housing and recovery-related needs in Minneapolis. You can donate online through the above website or write a check to The Minneapolis Foundation, 80 S. Eighth St., Suite 800, Minneapolis, MN 55402.
- Donate directly to the Red Cross at www.redcrosstc.org.
