Education Minnesota ready to educate, entertain at State Fair 

Celebrate education and kick off the 2007-08 school year with Education Minnesota at the Minnesota State Fair. Education Minnesota’s booth, front and center in the Education building, will be filled with musical instruments, costumes, arts and crafts, citizenship tests,  and calendars.

A different group of educators will be featured at the booth each day, sharing the best of their field, running activities,  and handing out information and prizes.

The education groups working at the Fair and special events include:                             

Thursday, Aug. 23
Art Educators of MN - Art Educators will be passing out information on K-12 arts education, as well as activity packets for kids of all ages.
 
Friday, Aug. 24
MN School Nurses Organization
  
Saturday, Aug. 25
MN Music Educators - Fairgoers will have an opportunity to try out various musical instruments at the MN Music Educators “booth in a booth.”
 
Sunday, Aug. 26
MN Reading Association - The MN Reading Association will hand out lists of their favorite books for readers of all ages and will read a selection of those books.
 
Monday, Aug. 27
MN Council for History Education - Along with the History Theatre and the U.S. Air Force, the MN Council for History Education will share  information on the importance of history and history education.
 
Tuesday, Aug. 28
Read Across America Day - Come hear children’s books read aloud by guest readers from Bookpals and Education Minnesota throughout the day.
 
Wednesday, Aug. 29
Educational Support Professionals Day - Fairgoers can learn how support professionals, such as education assistants, bus drivers, secretaries, custodians and nurses, help kids become successful students.
 
Thursday, Aug. 30
MN Teacher of the Year program - Meet the current and former Teachers of the Year.
 
Friday, Aug. 31
MN Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages - The MN Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages will use sample citizenship test questions to test your cultural and geography knowledge.
 
Saturday, Sept. 1
Family and Consumer Science in Education - Family and Consumer Science educators will discuss nutrition and how what we drink affects our diet.
 
Sunday, Sept. 2
MN Science Teachers Association - The MN Science Teachers Association will bring some small friends – animals without backbones – to help fairgoers explore animal behavior and see earth science up close.
 
Monday, Sept. 3
Back to School Day - Get parent tips on starting the school year off right and find out what is new in schools in 2007-08.

Fairgoers can also stop by the booth for a free Education Minnesota photo calendar. Volunteers and Education Minnesota staff will take pictures and produce an individualized calendar for visitors.

The Education Minnesota booth is located at the entrance to the Education Building, which is near the Snelling Avenue fairground entrance.
