St. Paul, Minn., Aug. 23 -- Test your brain power, display your musical talent, learn about interesting topics, win prizes and meet some of the best teachers in Minnesota history at this year’s Minnesota State Fair.

Each day features a different group of educators at the Education Minnesota booth, located near the entrance to the Education Building. The building is open 9 a.m.-9 p.m. every day.

You can also have your picture taken and printed on an Education Minnesota calendar. We create as many as 1,000 calendars every day. It’s free and one of our most popular attractions.

This year’s education groups include the following (subject to change):

Aug. 26: Minnesota Reading Association
Kick off the Great Minnesota Get-Together by improving your reading skills. Volunteers from the Minnesota Reading Assocation will answer questions and give advice on improving reading skills and habits. Education Minnesota Vice President Paul Mueller reads to children 1-4 p.m. Brochures will be available.

Aug. 27: Art Educators of Minnesota
Get hands-on arts material for children from the Art Educators of Minnesota. More than 500 educators make up Art Educators of Minnesota, the official state visual arts education association for K-12 and higher education instructors.

Aug. 28: Minnesota School Counselors
Meet the Minnesota School Counselors and pick up some fun giveaways! Volunteer counselors will be at Education Minnesota’s booth. Learn how our school counselors are helping open doors to student success!

Aug. 29: Minnesota Music Educators
Kids and adults can test their skills on a variety of musical instruments. Sharpen your musical skills and show off your talent. Minnesota Music Educators will be at the Education Minnesota booth 9 a.m.-6 p.m.

Aug. 30: School Nurse Organization of Minnesota 
Learn more about essential health. School nurses will play Health Wheel of Fortune to teach children essential health information. Nurses will also discuss health-related concerns with families, including immunizations, nutrition, safety and other issues.

Aug. 31: Educational support professionals 
Aug. 31 is ESP Day at the Education Minnesota booth. Visitors can play ESP Jeopardy, where children pick a category and guess the correct ESP job description for that question. Children win back-to-school prizes like crayons, pencils and erasers.

Sept. 1: Minnesota State High School Math League
Think you’re a math whiz? Find out at the Education Minnesota booth. Volunteers from the Minnesota State High School Math League will be on hand so visitors young and old can test their math skills on the same types of problems students face at math meets.

Sept. 2: Minnesota Teacher of the Year
Meet the very best teachers in Minnesota! 2010 Minnesota Teacher of the Year Ryan Vernosh of St. Paul and honorees from previous years will greet visitors. Pick up information about the Teacher of the Year program and how to nominate your favorite teacher.

Sept. 3: Minnesota Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages
Improve your knowledge of the world and test your English skills. We’ll offer fun trivia questions about world languages, English and immigration. 

Sept. 4: Family and Consumer Sciences Education
Are you smarter than a FACS student? Find out on Sept. 4. Volunteers from Family and Consumer Sciences Education will quiz visitors about nutrition, financial literacy, consumerism, child development and other important family topics. You might win a free cooking class!

Sept. 5: Communication and Theatre Association of Minnesota
Interested in expressing yourself? Several high school speech coaches will be on hand Sept. 5. They will discuss how to get involved in high school speech, one-act plays and theatre, as well as the benefits of those programs. They will also discuss collegiate communication opportunities. Brochures will be available.
