St. Paul, Minn., Feb. 9, 2011: Education Minnesota President Tom Dooher congratulated Gov. Mark Dayton for the leadership and vision he outlined in Wednesday’s State of the State Address.

“Gov. Dayton recognizes the critical need to invest in Minnesota’s students. He understands that the road to a better Minnesota begins in the classroom. He is keeping his campaign promise to reverse years of cuts in K-12 education and invest more in Minnesota’s future. His call for all-day, every day kindergarten will help close the achievement gap, by providing all children with high-quality learning opportunities at an early age,” Dooher said.

“I am also impressed by the statesmanship and leadership Gov. Dayton is providing during these difficult times. He is setting a positive new tone of cooperation and collaboration to meet the challenges that lie ahead. We are grateful for a leader who recognizes the reform and innovation already happening in our schools and we’re encouraged by his promise to work with teachers on making our strong system of public education even stronger.”

“I completely agree with Gov. Dayton when he says our children’s futures are in our hands, and that their futures are our responsibility. I look forward to working closely with Gov. Dayton to make sure we live up to that promise and meet that responsibility.”
