Thomas Rademacher

Bloomington, Minn., May 4, 2014 – Thomas Rademacher, a high school English teacher at the FAIR School Downtown in the West Metro Education Program (WMEP) has been chosen the 2014 Minnesota Teacher of the Year. He is the 50th winner of the prestigious award, and the first from the WMEP district.

The FAIR (Fine Arts Interdisciplinary Resource) School is a K-12 school with two campuses, in downtown Minneapolis and Crystal. WMEP is a voluntary integration district that includes 11 west-metro school districts.

Rademacher is known at FAIR for his unwavering commitment to students. “Every class I teach and every training I lead is intended to understand where students are, help them focus on where they want to be, and give them every tool, intervention and opportunity necessary to get there,” he said.

“Mr. Rademacher will do anything in his power to help his students succeed,” said student Asyana Eddy in a nomination letter for Rademacher. “He gives us the freedom to approach his subjects in the most creative ways possible, he teaches us that our thoughts matter, and that we are capable of anything we want to do with our lives.”

Rademacher has taught at FAIR School since 2006 in both the Crystal and Minneapolis locations of the school. He holds numerous educational leadership positions within the district. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Minnesota.

Education Minnesota, the 70,000-member statewide educators union, organizes and underwrites the Teacher of the Year program, which receives support from the following organizations: SMART Technologies, The DoubleTree by Hilton Bloomington, the Harvard Club of Minnesota Foundation, United Educators Credit Union, McDonald’s Restaurants of Minnesota, TruStone Financial, Pearson Education and Education Minnesota ESI.
