ST. PAUL, Minn. March 17, 2017 – Gov. Mark Dayton proposed on Friday to expand access to high-quality pre-kindergarten programs in his supplemental budget, which also includes $200 million to soften the blow from draconian cuts in President Donald Trump’s proposed budget.
“Gov. Dayton is making the smart choice by expanding access to high-quality preschool, which will pay dividends to our state for generations,” said Denise Specht, president of Education Minnesota. “He’s also acting responsibly by protecting our state from the damage Congress and President Trump would do with the president’s cruel cuts to the federal budget, including after-school programs and Meals on Wheels. Let’s all hope the majorities in the state House and Senate will join the governor in standing up for Minnesotans, and against the president’s priorities.”
