ST. PAUL, Minn. May 11, 2016 – Education Minnesota has endorsed two more candidates for the state Legislature, Gary Schindler for House and Leah Solo for Senate.
Schindler is running in House District 27A, which includes Albert Lea in south-central Minnesota. Schindler, a former classroom teacher, is a dean at Riverland Community College in Austin.
"Schindler's experience in education is both broad and deep. He’s going to help the Legislature tackle some of the issues facing our greater Minnesota schools and community colleges," said Denise Specht, president of Education Minnesota.
Solo is running in Senate District 44, which includes the suburb of Plymouth. Solo has been active in progressive politics for years and was the deputy campaign manager for Minnesotans United for All Families, which worked for marriage equality.
“Leah Solo fights for working families and progressive legislation on a daily basis," Specht said. "She’s going to bring a fresh and powerful perspective to the Capitol, and work hard on issues like paid parental leave and expanding access to high-quality early childhood education.”
Both Schindler and Solo are members of the DFL.
Education Minnesota endorses candidates in two ways. Some incumbents are selected based on their records of support for public education. Other candidates are endorsed after meeting with screening committees of educators who live or work in the candidate's district.
