ST. PAUL, Minn., Aug. 3, 2015 – Education Minnesota President Denise Specht released the following statement regarding the settlement reached between the Minnesota Department of Education and its testing vendor, Pearson, for this spring’s MCA testing glitches.

“While we don’t think the settlement is high enough given the widespread frustrations and anxiety caused by the technical glitches, at least Pearson is willing to take some responsibility for the disruptions.

If I was a parent, I would be skeptical of these results and whether they accurately measure my child’s academic progress. Relying heavily on these high-stakes tests is wrong. If we really care about helping all students succeed, we would scale back on this obsession with testing and restore the weeks of teaching and learning lost to test prep and administration.”
