ST. PAUL, Minn. May 19, 2017 – Hundreds of educators from throughout Minnesota will rally Saturday in the Minnesota Capitol Rotunda to promote public education on the final weekend of the 2017 session of the Legislature.

The rally had been previously scheduled to begin outdoors, but union officials decided Friday to move the public portions of the event entirely inside the Capitol due to cold, rainy weather in the forecast for Saturday afternoon.

At 1 p.m., the union expects about 500 educators and allies to rally at the Capitol Rotunda for about an hour. At about 2 p.m., the rally will conclude with the delivery to the governor’s office of about 1,000 handwritten notes from educators and other supporters of public education. 

Updated logistics:

  • 12:30 p.m.    Crowd gathers in Capitol Rotunda.
  • 1 p.m.    Rally begins in Capitol Rotunda. Scheduled speakers include educators, labor leaders, civic leader and elected leaders, including Rep. Julie Sandstede and Sen. Steve Cwodzinski.
  • 2 p.m.    Deliver about 1,000 handwritten notes to office of Gov. Mark Dayton.
